Visit the world’s famous monument to love, the Taj Mahal, a truly exquisite and perfect architectural wonder and be touched by the sun setting on the River - the non-tourist view. Explore magnificent ruins and the architectural wonders of past cultures that stir the imagination to wonderment. Take a journey to Jaipur, the incredible pink city and capitol of Rajasthan set in the desert part of India, with some of the greatest contrasts, saturated with rich vibrant colours against harsh landscapes, superb palaces and the opulent lifestyles of the Maharajas. The fabrics, jewellery, marble work and handcrafts reflect the vibrancy of this area and are some of the best in India.

VISAS and PASSPORTS -

We organise all your visas and travel permits for you. You are required to have a passport valid for 6 months beyond the expiry date with at least 2 blank pages.

FOOD-

Food in India is truly a sensational. The tantalising aroma of roasting spices and a huge variety of breads, vegetable and meat curries to wickedly tempting sweets delight the palette. We eat local Indian, Tibetan and Nepalese food but go to restaurants where western type food is available.

ACCOMODATION -

Accommodation generally is comfortable twin share, to add to and enhance your experience, therefore not 5 star (unless stated). Some are refurbished palaces or historical buildings. We endeavour to ensure rooms have their own bathroom and toilet. Hotels are chosen for their location – in the cultural heart of the town, close to everything that you need such as shops, restaurants, money changers; internet etc.Each has something special to offer and most have lovely courtyards and garden settings, and include restaurants. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Our tours suit travellers of all ages with average fitness and mobility. Some are more suited to those with a keen interest for exploration and adventure and involve long road or rail journeys, some walking and at times more basic accommodation. We are with you all the way to support and ensure that you are as comfortable as possible.

GENERAL INFORMATION-

We supply a detailed list of what to pack, information on money, health precautions and climatic conditions, things to be aware of and other general information specific to each tour. We offer free information meetings and have a ’get together dinner’ to meet other members of our groups before departing. After each tour we have a group dinner party to share photos, laughs and our experiences.

SOMETHING SPECIAL

Have you hands intricately decorated with henna – a natural plantdye. These patterns are traditionally painted on the palms and hands and feet as part of the wedding ceremony. This is an ancient art known as mahendi.

Depart Melbourne and arrive in Delhi. Settle into hotel and rest up for tomorrow.
DAY 2
Delhi: After breakfast explore this huge city – home to 12 million people and the capitol of India. Explore the main Bazaar in Pahar Ganj and the quaint shops and markets of Janpath. Afternoon tour of the Red Fort – Lal Qila - the fort and walled city of Shah Jahan, built at the peak of the Mughal power, in the mid 1600’s. Walk to the biggest Mosque in India – Jama Masjid which can hold 25,000 people and enjoy the views over Delhi.

DAY 3

Depart on early morning train for Agra. Settle into Hotel, rest and enjoy the courtyard and garden over coffee. Walk down to the River behind the Taj Mahal. Great for the photographer and a non-tourist view of the Taj. Visit the tomb of the first wife (outside the Taj compound and seldom visited by tourists)

Afternoon - go inside the Itmad Tomb (Taj Mahal) and stay until sunset. This is a monument to love and truly exquisite. Soak up the amazing atmosphere, the water reflections and superb river views. Great for photos. Explore the Mosque to the right.

Day to self – suggest a re-visit the Taj Mahal at dawn and a wander around the local market or just relax in the gardens – swing on the seat and watch the little squirrels scurry about.

Take a walk and, 'people watch' - there is always something to see.

 

  DAY 5
Morning visit to the Red Fort with a local guide to explain this huge complex. Return to hotel for lunch and have the afternoon to self to go shopping or explore Agra famous for its marble inlay work and gems. Suggest dinner at the Hilton or other of the exclusive hotels.

DAY 6

Depart Agra this morning for Jaipur in Rajasthan, the desert part of India with some of the greatest contrasts, saturated with rich vibrant colours against harsh landscapes, superb palaces and the incredible lifestyles of the Maharajas.

Take a 1½ hr. journey to the magnificent Fetaphur Secri ruins – explore with local guide.

Visit the Fetaphur Mosque and the huge victory gate taking in the view back over Agra. Akhbar built this gate to commemorate one of his many victories.

This mosque is famed for beng the best replica to the one in Mecca. The architecture is stunning, especially the white marble tomb in the courtyard.

Here lies the sage said to have clairvoyant powers - a holy man and adviser to Akhbar himself. Descendents of his family reside in the village outside. There is also a secret underground tunnel connecting with Agra - some 36kms - for a quick escape.

 

DAY 7
Depart after lunch for Jaipur, Rajasthan’s main city, which is pink, dusty and bustling with life, noise and colour that bombard the senses. Here there are huge jewellery emporiums, camels, one of the best of India’s cinemas shaped like a meringue, palaces and amazing bazaars. In 1876 Ram Singh had the entire old city painted pink, a colour associated with hospitality, to welcome the Prince of Wales.

After a restful morning we visit the famous Palace of The Winds - Hawa Mahal an extraordinary, fairy-tale, delicately carved pink sandstone palace built for women of the royal household to watch processions and city life. Take time to sit and do some ‘watching’ ourselves. Walk down into the interesting and busy Bazaar with the mirrored textiles, glass ware, amazing embroidered maharaja slippers and much, much, much more.
  DAY 9
Take in a Bollywood movie in one of the most famous cinemas in India. Lots of fun and you do not need to understand Hindi!!

DAY 10
Depart for the Amber Fort – 11 ks from Jaipur this delicate and beautiful fort hugs a ridge overlooking the town of Amber, the ancient capitol of Jaipur state. It is a fine example of Rajput architecture with delicate and detailed painting around the main entrance. The hall of mirrors is magnificent! We can take an elephant ride here and from the top of the fort are some stunning desert views. Walk through ancient corridors that open onto courtyards and gardens and appreciate the architectural details. Loose yourself in this vast and palatial complex.

Visit the city palace late morning. View some of the extravagant life style of the Maharajas here – the current Maharaja – still resident in this Palace - is a polo chum of Prince Charles. See fabulous miniature paintings and other exquisite art work.

Lunch in the palace grounds restaurant entertained by classical music, have your palm read whilst the fountain splashes and you relax in the sun drenched courtyard.

After lunch wander around the palace grounds or explore the jewellery shops.

  DAY 12
Day to self to process, rest and relax.
DAY 13

Return to Delhi by morning bus. Arrive and rest up. Attend to last minute shopping ie: buy a new backpack, collect script glasses or arrange to have an Indian outfit tailor made.

Dinner at ‘Sams’ the roof-top restaurant in Delhi – good views of the main Bazaar at night.

DAY 14
Spare day to add to our adventure, for those unexpected things that inevitably happen in India r take a day to ‘chill’.

Pack, and store baggage. Enjoy a special lunch at the Olive Bar & kitchen depending on the flight. Transfer to airport. Depart Delhi.

Arrive home in Australia.
